Leading with heart

Alpine’s Christena Burnham helps level up every child’s potential as a volunteer with the Colorado PTA

Christena Burnham, Alpine Bank’s lockbox and automation product manager, has been with the bank for 11 years. She’s served in a similarly longstanding role with the Colorado Parent Teacher Association (PTA), for seven years. In that time Christena has had numerous roles and currently serves as vice president of membership.

The PTA’s mission is to make every child’s potential a reality, by engaging and empowering families and communities to advocate for all children.

“I volunteered for my local PTA when my kids first entered elementary school and soon learned that PTA was about a lot more than just bake sales,” says Christena. “I have a heart for supporting and advocating for kids to make sure that they all get a safe place to learn, with all of the supports they need.”

Her school-focused volunteer effort quickly grew to supporting other PTA units in the community with their nonprofit requirements, and helping to make them aware of all of the support and resources available from the state and national levels.

“With that, my view on who we advocate for shifted from those that share my child’s school to all children,” says Christena. “There is so much good work happening because of PTA, and so much more that needs to be done!”
