Plugging in to Sustainability

Like-minded group gathers to announce the new 2-car EV charging station at
Alpine Bank in Steamboat Springs, Colorado, station is now up and running and free to the public.

Electric vehicle (EV) owners can breathe a sigh of relief when cruising into Steamboat Springs from Denver or Edwards. Thanks to combined efforts from the Colorado Energy Office and the Yampa Valley Sustainability Council, a new EV charging station has been installed at the Alpine Bank branch on Pine Grove Road.

The station was made possible in part by a grant from Charge Ahead Colorado and the Colorado Energy Office. The publicly accessible Level 2 charging station is the newest and closest location to Highways 40 and 131, which travelers use to drive north and east to Steamboat. The EVBox charging system can accept any electric vehicles using a simple adapter and can charge two vehicles at the same time.

The station was unveiled at a “Plugging In” ceremony on September 12.  “The local interest in all-electric and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles is growing, and this new charging station will benefit both our community and visitors,” said Sarah Jones, executive director of the Yampa Valley Sustainability Council. Alpine Bank also offers charging stations at its locations in Boulder and Grand Junction. “The charging station at our Steamboat location is another example of our company’s ongoing dedication to the environment, and nothing would make us happier than seeing it being used consistently,” said Adonna Allen, president of the Alpine Bank Steamboat.
