Misty Tucson. The name sounds like someone you’d meet in Hollywood. And to be fair, Misty and her fellow stylists at Urban Grace Studio do have a certain star quality.

Urban Grace is a Durango-based hair salon that brings on-trend style to La Plata County. Owner Misty had worked in the salon industry for 19 years before making the leap to purchase her own salon. She wanted to bring a little urban life to the mountains, and to help moms in particular look and feel their best with effortless at-home styling. The timing was tricky: It all came together in January, 2020, as the pandemic was upending life for everyone.

“I wanted to create a space that fosters and encourages fellow inspired stylists to realize their full potential. By building an upbeat, classy, modern and professional environment, we have created a space where clients can come to relax and enjoy themselves. We focus on being an amazing, dynamic, hard-working team,” said Misty. “I love being a part of my clients’ lives, building relationships and being able to help build our clients’ confidence through our creativity—and the art of hair design.”

Urban Grace Studio has a diverse community of hair artists, representing experience from all decades. They offer services to women, men and kids. Their online process leads a client through a series of questions, where they can determine cut, a variety of color options, and request other services including waxing and nails. The qualifying questions also help match each potential client with the right stylist on the team.

Misty is a fourth-generation La Plata County resident, and the inspiration for her salon name comes from her daughter, Grace. “Life as a business owner and mother is challenging, but I am forever grateful for this business, our clients, and fellow stylists that have trusted me with a part of their story.”

That belief in her ambition was also at the heart of her business banking relationship. “Alpine Bank believed in me. They saw me as a person pursuing a dream and not just another customer who needed a loan,” said Misty. “I love that Alpine is more than a bank; they care about the locals and giving back to our community.”
