Make-A-Wish Colorado Creates Joy for Children with Critical Illnesses
The power of the wishes granted by Make-A-Wish® Colorado is immediately evident from a glance at the faces of a wish family. In addition to smiles that stretch from ear to ear, the child’s eyes will sparkle with wonder and excitement, while the parents’ eyes exude serenity and contentment. Those same expressions of joy and fulfillment appear on the faces of everyone associated with a wish – from the wish granters to the donors to the passersby lucky enough to receive a high five from a grinning wish kid.
Make-A-Wish Colorado granted 300 wishes last year to children with critical illnesses from across the state. Each wish is unique and based on the child’s desire, but all wishes have the power to replace fear with confidence, anxiety with hope and sadness with joy.
For nine-year-old Greyson and his family, his wish to go to Hawaii and swim with the dolphins was a celebration. Originally diagnosed with a rare autoimmune disease when he was in kindergarten and then later with a blood disorder, Greyson spent much of his young life in hospitals and isolated from friends and public spaces that might compromise his immune system. During their trip to Hawaii, the family created happy lifelong memories as they explored and relaxed together.
Make-A-Wish Colorado is part of the largest wish-granting organization in the world, with 60 chapters nationwide and 41 international affiliates granting wishes for children with critical illnesses on five continents. Due to the generous support of partners like Alpine Bank and caring community members, Make-A-Wish Colorado has granted more than 5,500 wishes to eligible children throughout the state since 1983.
