Matthew Hanson & Laura Lyman Lead Alpine Bank’s New Southern Colorado Branch
Matthew Hanson, Alpine Bank market president for the recently opened Colorado Springs branch, grew up in an Air Force family. Like many military kids, Colorado Springs was home in his formative years. “I’m thrilled to be back. My kids will be raised in the city I was raised in, and my parents and siblings are still in town. I wake up each morning and see Pikes Peak,” he says. “The Springs is growing, but still feels like a community from the north end to the south, east to the west.”
Matthew graduated from Lewis Palmer High School in 2000 and earned a bachelor’s in psychology with a minor in chemistry from the University of New Mexico. After college, he moved to the central Rockies in Colorado.
Matthew’s rise to senior leadership over 11 years includes roles from teller to officer trainee, branch manager to regional president in Summit County. He has also gained banking-specific education and training at the University of Colorado, including its Graduate School of Banking and Executive Development Institute.
Of Alpine Bank’s five foundational core values, community resonates most for Matthew. “I’m proud of how Alpine Bank supports its communities, whether through our lending, deposit or retail services, or with the impact we make with nonprofits, businesses, and other community members,” he says.
Matthew is considering numerous prospects for nonprofit involvement in his new role. “I’ve just started to explore the opportunities. I could see myself supporting the downtown arts community.” His previous volunteer roles include Breckenridge Film, Breckenridge Backstage Theater, and Agape Outpost, where he served as finance director.
Matthew shares leadership of the new branch with Laura Lyman, vice president and lender. Previously, Laura served as assistant vice president and lender at Alpine Bank Breckenridge and has been with the bank for six years.
Originally from Boston, Laura holds a bachelor’s degree in education from Endicott College and is currently enrolled in the University of Colorado Graduate School of Banking.
What’s Laura’s superpower? “It’s connecting with people and establishing relationships,” she says. To that end, she’s the newest board member of the Southern Colorado Women’s Chamber. Laura and her teen sons have experienced a warm welcome from the community.
“The people are genuine and caring,” she says. “I feel at home here and look forward to great opportunities for me personally and professionally.”
