Meet Ross Bentzler, Alpine’s Information Security Officer
Ross Bentzler is Executive VP and Information Security Officer for Alpine Bank. Ross has worked in the information technology field for two decades, focusing on information security for 13 years. He studied business administration at Colorado Mesa University, then obtained specialized training and certification at the SANS Technology Institute to learn cybersecurity engineering and general information security.
How Ross and His Team Improve Cybersecurity
His experience in the financial sector ensures that Alpine Bank meets the Federal Financial Institutions Examination Council’s (FFIEC) standards. Ross and his teams specialize in security information and event management (SIEM), endpoint detection and response (EDR), vulnerability management and security awareness and phishing simulation, among other tools. He also supervises physical security and digital governance, risk and compliance operations at Alpine.
Ross keeps a close eye on the changing cybersecurity landscape, noting that information attacks on his clients have become more sophisticated over the past ten years. Scammers not only have access to new tools such as artificial intelligence, but their tactics also now include new components of data privacy and information security.
Contributing to Alpine Bank’s Strong Security Culture
Thanks to Alpine’s strong security culture, Ross and his team are able to spread awareness of these threats and create new programs to counter them. Ross’s problem-solving skills, passion for technology and ability to foster cooperation across multiple departments help protect Alpine Bank customers from business email compromise, scams, ransomware attacks and identity fraud.
Ross takes pride in his work, particularly his accomplishments at Alpine Bank. The company’s high level of diligence is unique in his experience. “I have never been with, or heard of, any business that empowers their security department like Alpine Bank does,” says Ross.
