Mountain Family Health Centers and Expanding Health Care

Mountain Family Health Centers are partnering with Alpine Bank in the Building Health for All: The Basalt Integrated Health Center Campaign, as the beneficiary of funds raised at the 2018 Alpine Bank golf tournament. It was a beautiful day on the course and tournament participants helped raise $5,500 as seed money toward the construction of the organization’s new, state-of-the-art health center in Basalt.

“Mountain Family is excited to open the Basalt Integrated Health Center, in January 2019, with comprehensive, integrated primary medical, dental, and behavioral health care in one location for Roaring Fork Valley residents and workers,” says Garry Schalla, development director. “We’ll now have the room to offer more care, plus expanding services including care coordination.”

The additional space and expansion of services will enable Mountain Family to significantly increase the number of Roaring Fork Valley patients receiving care from 2,000 to 3,700.

The mission of Mountain Family Health, a 501(c)3 nonprofit, is to provide quality integrated primary medical, behavioral, and dental health care in the communities they serve, with special consideration for the medically underserved.

Across Roaring Fork Valley communities, the high demand for quality, affordable care remains. Over 24 percent of residents in the valley live at or below 200 percent of the Federal Poverty Level, which is less than $48,000 for a family of four. Mountain Family estimates that about 8,500 low-income individuals reside in the valley.

The new, expanded clinic will be located at 123 Emma Road, in the former Bristlecone Mountain Sports space, across from the current Mountain Family Basalt health center on Highway 82.

Mountain Family has raised more than $1.15 million of their $3.4 million goal for the Building Health for All: The Basalt Integrated Health Center Campaign.

“Support from community partners and individuals is essential to this expansion of care”, says Schalla. “We are excited to have Alpine Bank, Aspen Valley Hospital, Pitkin County, Alpenglow Foundation, Mind Springs Health, the Betty Jane Schuss Fund at the Aspen Community Foundation, the Aspen Skiing Company Caring for Community Fund—and other local entities currently on board.” Other partners include the Colorado Health Foundation and Caring for Colorado.
