More than a bookstore

A place for connection and community

Off the Beaten Path is a community treasure — a place where reading is celebrated, and connection is valued.

The full-service independent bookstore has roots in the Steamboat Springs community dating back to the 1980s, and after changing owners through the years, Danielle & Micheal Skov purchased the shop in 2022.

Off the Beaten Path carries an extensive collection of new fiction, literature, history, memoirs, and young adult books. The bookstore also features a large selection of children’s books and toys. To top it off, they have some of the best baked goods in town.

“We are a community gathering place disguised as a bookstore and café,” explained Skov. “We encourage people to linger and make our space a second home.”

Skov has called Steamboat home for 25 years. She and her husband raised three children here, and before purchasing the store she taught in the Steamboat Springs School District.

However, Skov has always been a bit of a bookworm. She loves reading, books, and bookstores but most importantly she knows the value of community.

“We hope it’s a place that you’ll want to return to again and again,” she said.
