Message from Mi CASA PERU

Mi CASA PERU Colorado is a nonprofit 501c3 organization founded on June 14, 2014, by current President May Stiglich. Our mission is to promote awareness of Peruvian culture, while providing youth and adult education to propel our fellow Peruvians to become successful in their professional and personal lives.   Our vision is to become Colorado’s premier Peruvian resource center while we serve the community and provide professional development.

In 2020, Mi CASA PERU Colorado launched a new support effort. We started a program that gave us the opportunity to help Peruvian students who were stranded in the United States when the pandemic hit. Hundreds of students were forced to stay here due to COVID-19 and were unable to go back to Peru.

Mi CASA PERU Colorado, in partnership with the Peruvian consulate, quickly organized a strategy to help the students in need. Alpine Bank became our main sponsor and supported our humble effort to support these students. The response was fast, and we had a very quick turnaround from our sponsor which enabled us to help students immediately. We are very thankful for the opportunity given to us to help.

As a result, we were able to provide food for those who were in need and help purchase flights that allowed students to get to larger cities where they could take international flights back to Peru. We worked hard to accomplish this mission with this group of young students.  We were incredibly happy to know that they were able to reunite with their families while maintaining good health.

Every year, Mi CASA PERU Colorado promotes the Peruvian culture by hosting a festival featuring Peruvian dances, food, vendors, entertainers and live music.  This year we celebrated the 199th anniversary of the independence of Peru. Due to the pandemic, the festival had to be done virtually instead of in person. We hosted the 8th Peruvian Festival in a virtual format on July 26, with the participation of Governor Jared Polis, Mayor of Denver Michael Hancock, Mayor of Aurora Mike Coffman and Peruvian Consul General Mr. Roland Denegri.

The event was a major success! We also included virtual plays from Peruvian performers of marinera dance and diverse international Peruvian music groups online. We are grateful for Alpine Bank as they were our main sponsor. We would not have been able to achieve this great success without their amazing partnership and collaboration.
