Protecting Wildlife & Homes: Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation

Jason Hensel volunteers on behalf of working families and wildlife

Jason Hensel, VP of Information Technology and tech liaison for Alpine Bank, has been with the organization for seven years. He’s passionate about the work of both the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation (RMEF) and Habitat for Humanity Mesa County (HFHMC), for which he serves as finance chair and as a board member, respectively.

RMEF, with its mission to ensure the future of elk, other wildlife, their habitat, and hunting heritage, has over 500 chapters in North America and the Grand Junction chapter has been the largest in terms of revenue for the organization in both 2021 and 2022, a point of pride for Jason.

“After starting with the bank in 2015 in Telluride, I got my first taste of archery elk hunting on public land. Coming from another state where there are no elk and very little public land, I quickly realized what a special experience I now had access to as a resident of Colorado,” says Jason.

He joined RMEF and eventually found additional opportunity to volunteer with his local Grand Junction chapter as its finance chair. “I am a life member of RMEF. This is a fantastic organization that strives to preserve and enhance public land and public land access that can benefit everyone, not just hunters or elk enthusiasts.”

As for his Habitat for Humanity volunteer role, Jason strongly supports the organization’s mission to construct simple, affordable and decent housing, in partnership with families, volunteers and the community, for people in need. He’s honored to continue Alpine’s longstanding board director position with HFHMC.

“Affordable housing is an issue affecting all communities and the financial aspect is only becoming more challenging,” says Jason.

He’s served on committees for construction and family selection. “HFHMC persevered through the pandemic and has really grown since that time, thanks to strong leadership and strategic planning. We’re building more houses each year and have plans for even greater positive impact on affordable housing in Mesa County in the future.”
