Alpine Bank warns of ongoing text and email scams
GLENWOOD SPRINGS, Colo.— Alpine Bank is advising customers at all banking institutions to remain vigilant as cyber-fraudsters continue to send fake texts and emails designed to fool people into disclosing their confidential bank account information or transferring money out of their account.
Fraudsters are targeting unsuspecting victims by sending texts or emails requesting confirmation of a fictitious transaction. The messages often result in the scammer calling the victim, impersonating an institution’s fraud center. They’re often asked to verify their login name and password or urged to transfer money to a different account.
Alpine Bank will never ask you for your password or other login information. Be cautious of unsolicited messages telling you something is wrong with your account, especially if the content creates a sense of urgency. Do not click links in messages and never send money to people you don’t know.
Text scams are not uncommon. These are like the surge of Text Toll Scams that communities around the nation have been experiencing, where victims are tricked into believing they have an overdue balance for their toll passes. Remember, legitimate tolling agencies do not send text messages.
Alpine Bank customer bank accounts are secure and under no threat if they do not provide their login credentials or other access to their accounts.
When in doubt, contact your bank’s main number, and log into your account using the main bank website that you always use. Please remember to keep your private information secure to protect against fraud.
