For Uyen Le, being in business for herself is about top-notch service to her clients, mentoring talent, and leading a collaborative team of pros. With her two Beauty Bar Salon & Spa locations in Colorado Springs, she is fully committed to all three objectives.
The Beauty Bar, as the name implies, is a full-service salon for hair, skin, and nails. It also serves seasonal cocktails, wine, beer, mocktails–and snacks, too. “We’ve pioneered a unique blend of a welcoming salon atmosphere, coupled with a full-service bar and a boutique shopping experience,” says Uyen. “I wanted to build a salon and spa that has that upscale feel while offering an inclusive, comfortable, inviting atmosphere. Our guests can enjoy refreshments while their polish is drying, or hair color is processing.”
Uyen moved to California from Vietnam at age six and earned her entrepreneurial chops by learning from her gifted mom, who built a nail salon business and established a clientele before selling it to an employee. Later, Uyen gave college a shot and determined it wasn’t for her. “When I told my dad, he said be prepared to work for the rest of your life,” says Uyen. For her, that wasn’t so difficult. “I’m always working hard to do and be better than I was the day before.”
Eventually she and her family moved to Colorado. Wanting to be in business for herself, Uyen and her partner purchased a building downtown on Tejon Street in 2013, which is now their flagship location. The two opened a second site in north Colorado Springs in 2017, on Dublin Boulevard.
At nearly a decade in business now, Uyen finds fulfillment both in the hands-on work she does and the synergistic environment she created. “What I’ve come to realize is that I love my work from behind the chair, making my guests laugh; enjoying their time with me,” she says. “But I’m also dedicated to the team that I work side-by-side with every day. I have a strong sense of responsibility to invest in and grow the group of professionals who are committed to our brand and company.”
Not surprisingly, Uyen has also grown to treasure the downtown community comprised of business-owners and locals alike. “Downtown is a close community that champions each other,” she says. “I cherish the connections and friendships I have made over the years, and I’m passionate about supporting the continuous growth and historic restoration in downtown Colorado Springs.”
