This Breckenridge-based nonprofit organization, designed to help disabled young people fulfill their potential, finds its Snow Sports Alliance Program back on track due to funding help and the active involvement of Alpine Bank.
As part of the program, in conjunction with Summit County Mountain Mentors, each student receives 10 small group ski or snowboard lessons from BOEC instructors, transportation to and from the ski resort and center, seasonal rentals and a season pass.
The idea for the program came from Bob Redman, a merchant, snowboard enthusiast and a BOEC instructor, who launched it in 1997. Tragically, that winter Redman was killed in an on-mountain collision while instructing his first group of Mountain Mentor children. However, since then BOEC and Mountain Mentors staff have put their heart into ensuring Bob’s vision will become a reality for countless kids.
The program enables any young person, regardless of their socio-economic situation, the opportunity to enjoy skiing, where they may not have otherwise been able to have this experience. The BOEC mission clearly states that one of their objectives is to provide participants with the opportunity to learn new skills, experience pristine natural areas and challenge themselves.
