For more than a century, some idyllic pastureland in northwest Colorado has been home to cattle, elk and other wildlife, and one longstanding and hardworking family. Fifth-generation rancher Krista Monger and husband Justin Warren are owners of JK Cattle Company and Mountain View Ranch, which belonged to Krista’s grandparents. Protected under a conservation easement with the Cattlemen’s Agricultural Land Trust, the couple raises Angus Cross Beef Cattle and hay on this parcel that sits underneath Elk Mountain—also known as Sleeping Giant—in the lower Elk River Valley about 10 miles northwest of Steamboat Springs.
