Eagle Valley Senior Life: Partners in Elder Caregiving

In 2011, a group of caregivers and other caring individuals saw a need for services and programs for older adults with dementia or other disabilities and their caregivers in Eagle County. With that, Eagle Valley Senior Life (EVSL) and the Senior Spot were born.

The Senior Spot is the first and remains the only adult daycare program in Eagle County. Not only does the Senior Spot provide much needed respite for caregivers, it provides fun, engaging activities for adults 55 and older, with cognitive, physical, and social limitations. The activities range from Gentle Yoga to fun sing alongs with the EVSL “house band.”

Alpine Bank loan officer, Andrew Zaback, became involved with EVSL in 2014 and is now the Board President. “When my Grandpa had Alzheimer’s, I saw the toll the disease took on not only my Grandma, but on my Mom who lived over 500 miles away. This is the most appropriate way to help.”

Eagle Valley Senior Life continues to expand its programs with Activity Buddies, a one-on-one program where screened volunteers accompany older adults on engaging activities. In addition, EVSL offers a Caregiver Education Series, with topics ranging from how to navigate Medicare to a streamlined approach on budgeting. Finally, EVSL provides financial relief for caregiver services through their Caregiver Assistance Fund.

There is a stigma to growing older, especially in the mountain communities where the athletes seem to never age. As the original inhabitants of the mountain towns’ age, the need for senior services continues to grow. Eagle Valley Senior Life is here to add life-enhancing services for seniors in the valley. Now it is time to get the word out!
