Boulder Dishes

Boulder dishes about Savory Cuisines Catering

Chef Bob Sargent was born in Elmira, New York. He knew at a very young age that cooking was one of the things that brought him and those around him joy. At 16, he was busing tables. Three-and-a-half decades later he’s still in the kitchen. This time it’s with his Savory Cuisines Catering of Boulder, established in 1997.

“Food plays an important role in social events,” says Bob. “And there is definitely a lot of skill required in making it as beautiful and delicious as possible. Savory Cuisines is dedicated to making the best food available by using the freshest and most flavorful ingredients.”

A graduate of the Culinary School of the Rockies, now Escoffier Culinary School, Bob has had the opportunity to teach at both schools. But before that, he was soaking up the techniques and flavors of global cuisine, with extensive travel and training around the world.

Bob’s catering company specializes Chinese, Thai, Mexican, Italian and Irish food. He was a pastry apprenticeship in Caux, Switzerland and later he created and taught a culinary program in Bhutan. He also excels at traditional American fare, including regional favorites like barbecue and Southwest fare. Chef Bob has worked and trained across the United States, including San Francisco, Delaware, New York and Boston.

The catering industry has been good to Chef Bob, so he created the Savory Cup to give back. In this competition, four of Boulder and Denver’s best chefs are judged on both their culinary skills and creativity during the course of two events. The winner gets a grand prize of $2,000, and all net proceeds from the cash bar and $50 ticket sales go to Blue Sky Bridge Child and Family Advocacy Center.

“We created this event to benefit Blue Sky Bridge, a Boulder nonprofit that serves children who are victims of child abuse,” says Bob. “As a chef, I have come across many people in our industry who benefited from the great work they do in our community.”
