All together now

Bravo! Vail music festival brings world-renowned musicians to the mountains for six magical weeks

The idyllic summer season in Vail is made all the more sweet with the summertime soundtrack provided by the Bravo! Vail Music Festival. Since 1987, this award-winning music festival has charmed audiences young and old. This year, music-lovers will enjoy performances at numerous diverse venues: From Vail’s Gerald R. Ford Amphitheater to Eagle’s Brush Creek Pavilion, Beaver Creek’s Vilar Performing Arts Center to the Minturn Amphitheatre and elsewhere.

Bravo! Vail brings world-class music — with an emphasis on the classical genre — to residents and visitors in both free and ticketed events. In fact, its mission is to enrich lives through the power of music by producing the finest performances by the greatest artists, fostering music education and promoting a lifelong appreciation of the arts. Artistic director Anne-Marie McDermott has led the Festival since 2011.

A 2023 series, Little Listeners @ the Library, is appropriately themed “All Together Now”. It’s a nod to recent years’ challenges in bringing music to live audiences through the global pandemic. It also conveys the festival’s abiding intent to make participation and access widely inclusive.

“’All Together Now’ highlights the importance of teamwork and collaboration,” says Jackie Ernst, director of development. To that end, this signature Bravo! Vail series offers its free programs for children at the Vail, Avon, Eagle, and Gypsum public libraries. This year there will be performances by the Galvin Cello Quartet, Dalí Quartet, Viano String Quartet and Isidore String Quartet in June and July.

“Alpine Bank is a generous sponsor of Bravo! Vail’s Little Listeners series, which provides the means to explore musical concepts and ideas with young audiences in a captivating and memorable way,” says Jackie. “Most people don’t realize that about half of the 80 concerts Bravo! Vail presents each summer are free, thanks to the support of donors.”

As it enters its 36th season, Bravo! Vail is proud to be the only festival in North America to host four of the world’s top orchestras in a single season. From June 22 to August 3, 2023, there will be more than 80 concerts, performed by the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields, New York Philharmonic, The Philadelphia Orchestra and the Dallas Symphony Orchestra, in addition to a variety of chamber and community concerts.

Beyond its summer programming, Bravo! Vail serves the community by providing year-round, low-cost music education through Music Makers Haciendo Música, which is a piano, violin and chamber ensemble instruction program that helps develop new generations of musicians and music lovers.
